14.-16.7.
The next few days we spent in Kyoto getting to know the beautiful city a bit better. But first of all we needed to find a proper playground. We traveled to the botanical gardens!
We are trying to find this place. |
But first through the city:
Gion Matsuri festival gear. |
Through the market streets.
After a subway trip we arrived where we wanted to be:
And finally we found the playground! While many Japanese playgrounds are quite modest for Australian and Finnish standards, this one fulfilled expectations.
Library! |
Finally it was time for dinner and we went to a family restaurant our host had recommended.
We would not have found this place by ourselves. |
The food was excellent! |
The next day we decided to visit Kiyomizu-dera temple through parts of the Old Kyoto and its Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka streets. We started our day early so we were able to enjoy the empty streets.
We saw a wedding couple and their professional team! The couple was wearing traditional clothes for this photo shoot, but apparently they might use 2-4 traditional and western outfits during the wedding celebrations.
The oldest temple. |
Suddenly we were not alone anymore. |
Kiyomizu dera gates |
Coca-cola sponsors the temple. |
The temple didn't feel peaceful or philosophical but busy and somewhat commercial even.
We finally found stamps! |
The famous view. |
Restaurants. |
Holy water. |
Ultra violet sterilizer. |
We met our friend for lunch.
Then for a stroll:
How about a cool cucumber? |
We accidentally ran into a Totoro shop!!
Baby clothes! |
No rickshaws. |
Time for okonomiyaki!
Streets were carless due to the Gion Matsuri festival. |
Next stop: karaoke!
Geisha was serving beer. |
Thank you, kiitos, Kyoto! |
- Next stop: hot springs in Shuzenji!
