| What looms behind this misty mountain? |
On 13.7. we took the train to the nearby town of Otsu where Johannes' family used to live.
| Lace. |
| Rainy day. |
| Announcing. |
| Another cab. |
First, we found the Finnish School of Japan where Johannes' parents were teaching years back and where Johannes started school. The school is not operating anymore, and the building is a family home/hostel/music school nowadays.
| Combined school and dormitory. |
The door was opened and we got to go in for a visit!
| All the old books were still there! |
| Instructions for loaning books. |
| J's 1st class. |
| Wow. Lot's of memories! |
| Dorm. |
| Sauna. |
| Greetings from Jasuko! |
Next: Nangoo, where Johannes used to live.
Food was needed. There was not a lot of choices in the small village. Actually we found just one that was open.
| The menu is written on the wood sticks on the wall. |
| Ramen? Sushi? Miso? Tofu? Edamame? |
| You silly tourists. |
| We managed to order food! |
Then it was time to find J's old home!
| Our house on a hill. |
| An interesting garden. |
The view from our 3rd floor was impressive!
| There was a small playground on the yard. |
Next we decided to walk to Johannes' old kindergarten.
| Rice paddies next to houses. |
| Found it! |
| Fire slide was the best thing! |
| Nothing had changed. |
Kids had gone home already for the day but the nice teachers were having a meeting and they invited us in! Johannes' old teacher had just retired the year before.
| They found old yearbooks with J's pics! |
See you in the morning, Kyoto!
